Suspect arrested for fatal stabbing on Amsterdam street
The police arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal incident on Pontanusstraat in Amsterdam-Oost on Sunday. A man died after being found dead on the street. The police initially said the victim had a bullet wound, but now said that he was stabbed to death.
The Amsterdam police responded to Pontanusstraat in the Oost district at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, after a report of an injured man on the street. They found the man wounded and unresponsive. First responders tried to resuscitate him, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.
The suspect, a 38-year-old man from Amsterdam, was arrested on Wednesday evening after a “thorough” and large-scale investigation. “He is suspected of stabbing a man who died as a result,” the police said.
The man is in restricted custody, which means that he is only allowed contact with his lawyer and that the authorities can’t share details about the case.
