No trains between Assen and Groningen outside rush hour on Monday due to track subsidence

Due to a subsided track between the stations of Groningen and Groningen Europapark, no trains will run between Assen and Groningen outside rush hour on Monday, reports NS. According to a spokeswoman for the railway company, only a few sprinters will run between Assen and Groningen Europapark during rush hour. Other trains from the direction of Zwolle will not run further than Assen. According to ProRail, this disruption will last at least until Tuesday, November 26, at 2:00 a.m.

The company hopes that buses will be able to run on Monday and is working on arranging this. Travelers should account for extra travel time, warns NS.

There were already problems on Sunday due to the subsidence, as trains from Zwolle did not go further than Groningen Europapark.

According to a spokeswoman for NS, the reason no trains can run on a larger section on Monday has to do with the available capacity on the track. "On Sundays, there are fewer trains than during the week," she says. On Monday, the trains would get in each other's way. "That's why it was decided to run services only as far as Assen."
