Problems with train traffic in Groningen due to track subsidence

Due to a subsidence of the track, train traffic around the city of Groningen has been severely disrupted. No trains are running from Groningen to and from Zwolle, and train traffic in the direction of Veendam has also come to a standstill. The subsidence is also causing problems on the road, reports Aanpak Ring Zuid.

The NS expects the problems for train traffic to last until at least 6 p.m. According to the railway company, there are "very limited" buses running. Trains are running from Groningen Europapark station to Zwolle and Veendam.

According to rail manager ProRail, a track subsidence was discovered during maintenance work between Groningen Europapark and Groningen. The rail manager is investigating how big the problems are and what is needed for a solution.

Also part of the southern ring road in Groningen is closed in both directions due to the subsidence. The ring road runs under the subsided railway. Part of the road was already closed due to planned roadworks.
