Dutch police confirm murder suspect caught in France is wanted for Rotterdam attack

A 32-year-old man who was arrested in France on Tuesday evening is also suspected of throwing a heavy stone on the head of a sleeping homeless man aged 37 in Rotterdam, police reported.

The man from Cameroon is also suspected of involvement in a deadly stabbing incident in Lyon, France, and three murder attempts in Évry, Strasbourg, and Dijon. He was arrested at the station in Toulon after he had attacked a woman on a train, the police reported.

The attack in Rotterdam took place at the Maritime Museum during the evening hours of last Monday going into Tuesday. The suspect threw a large rock on the head of a homeless man while he was sleeping. He was seriously injured as a result.

It was reported on Tuesday that the suspect may have been involved in the death of a homeless man in Lyon. The man was murdered with a heavy rock on Monday.

In recent days, the police had prominently displayed an investigation notice with the suspect's photo on its website. That message has now been deleted.

Last week, the police received dozens of tips about the case. These mainly came after the footage of the suspect throwing the heavy stone on the homeless man was shown on the TV show Opsporing Verzocht. The suspect was seen in Breda after this, after which he took an international train in the direction of Antwerp and Brussels.

A crowdfunding campaign for the homeless man has now raised almost 30,000 euros. Friends and relatives say they want to do everything they can with the campaign "to ensure that when he wakes up, he receives the best care and never has to sleep on the street again."
