Man who threw a heavy stone on sleeping homeless man in Rotterdam may also be homeless
The man who threw a heavy stone on the head of a sleeping homeless man in Rotterdam may also be homeless. The police are hoping that somebody recognizes him and calls the emergency number 112.
"It could be that the person who did this is also someone without a fixed abode or residence. Then it could be that someone happens to see him walking. We hope that people will look out for him," said a police spokeswoman.
The severe assault of the 37-year-old victim happened in the evening hours of Monday leading into Tuesday around 4 a.m. The perpetrator first walked past the sleeping man at the Maritime Museum on the Leuvehaven with two large bags. He then carried a heavy stone above his head, with which he hit the victim on the head before running away.
The victim was admitted to hospital in critical condition. Police had no update on his condition.
The TV show Opsporing Verzocht showed footage of the incident and the culprit on Tuesday night. Police added that the suspect had been spotted in Breda at around 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning. It is unknown what the suspect was doing there.
It was added to the description of the suspect that he has a cropped haircut, the spokeswoman said on Friday. This is additional information because thus far, he has only been shown wearing a hood.
Police have received over 50 tips in their search for the suspect thus far. However, none of the tips have led to the resolution of the case. The suspect’s identity is also still a mystery.
