Homeless man in critical condition after getting hit on head with stone as he slept
The Rotterdam police are looking for a man who critically injured a homeless man by throwing a heavy stone onto his head as he lay sleeping early on Tuesday. The 37-year-old victim is in critical condition in hospital, the police said on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday.
The incident happened at the Maritime Museum on the Leuvehaven. Security camera footage shows the homeless man finding a place to sleep. After a while, the suspect walks up. He seemed to check if the victim was asleep, left, and returned shortly afterward with a large, heavy stone. He threw it onto the homeless man’s head and then ran away.
The police are looking for a dark-skinned man. At the time of the incident - between 3:40 and 4:05 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5 - he wore dark-colored clothing and black Asics sneakers with bright orange laces. He was carrying two large shopping bags at the time.
Investigators asked witnesses or anyone with information about the perpetrator or his whereabouts to come forward.
