Body of Dutch woman missing since Valencia floods found on beach
The body of Dutch Silvana Lochi (53), who went missing during the first day of flooding in Spain, has been found, a friend confirmed on Facebook. “Sil,” as her friends called her, was found dead at the beach near Saler, another friend told the Telegraaf.
Sil, who grew up in Heerlen, had lived in the Spanish town of Turis for around 18 months. She was on her way home from work in Puçol during the heavy downpours on Tuesday, October 29, but never arrived.
“Sweet Sil. You have been missing for almost 2 weeks and today we received the news that they have found you. The little bit of hope that was left is now also gone,” friend Ramona Wijnands wrote on Facebook. “For 34 years you have been my friend… What am I supposed to do without you? I love you. Rest in peace sweetheart.”
At least 222 people died when heavy rainfall turned into flooding in Spain two weeks ago. Dozens of people are still missing. The coastal region of Valencia was hit the hardest. The damage is expected to run into the tens of billions of euros, according to RTL Nieuws.
