Man stabbed to death on Vlissingen street
A 48-year-old man was stabbed to death on Kasteelstraat in the heart of Vlissingen overnight. The police believe the victim had no fixed residence. A suspect was arrested a short time after the incident.
The emergency services received the first report of the stabbing at around 00:05 a.m. First responders found the injured man on the street, lying near a home, the police said. They tried to stabilize the victim, but he died at the scene.
The police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. This led them to a 25-year-old man from Vlissingen as the suspected perpetrator. The police arrested him on Bosjeslaan at around 1:35 a.m. He is in custody for questioning.
The circumstances surrounding the stabbing are still unclear. The police are investigating.
According to NOS, the Vlissingen mayor declared the city’s center a security risk area two months ago due to several violent incidents. The police are allowed to preventively frisk anyone in the Vlissingen city center until mid-March.
