PostNL announces another price hike on stamps as mail volumes continue to fall
After increasing the prices for stamps in July, PostNL announced another price hike that will take effect on 1 January 2025. According to the postal company, the new stamp price is “unavoidable due to the declining mail volumes.”
Stamp prices for letters sent within the Netherlands will increase from 1.14 euros to 1.21 euros. The base rate for letters sent abroad will increase by 10 cents to 1.90 euros.
The price for domestic packages will stay the same at 6.95 euros. Postage for a parcel at a PostNL point will increase from 7.95 euros to 8.25 euros. The rates for sending parcels abroad will remain mostly the same when purchasing the shipping label online. A higher rate will apply when purchasing a shipping label via a PostNL point.
“We have been dealing with a decline in the volume of mail for several years. Particularly in consumer mail, for which these new rates apply,” said Maurice Unck, director of mail at PostNL. “Our mail deliverers have less and less mail in their bags. Where 20 years ago we delivered three letters a day to every home address, that is now three per week. At the same time, costs have risen sharply, making a price increase necessary.”
The rate of the December stamp PostNL issues every year will be 1.06 euros per stamp or 21.20 euros for a sheet with 20 stamps. This year’s special stamps will be available online and at post offices, parcel points, and other stamp sales points from November 18.
