Michelin Stars given to 10 Dutch restaurants; Inter Scaldes awarded 2, Librije holds 3

Ten Dutch restaurants were awarded their first Michelin star at the award ceremony in Maastricht on Monday. There are no new three-star restaurants in the Netherlands. De Librije in Zwolle remains the only three-star restaurant in the Netherlands. Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen received two stars.

The Netherlands now has 122 Michelin Star restaurants, with each listed at the bottom of this article. Eight more restaurant chefs were also awarded Green Stars, bringing that total up to 23. The Green Stars for sustainability are awarded separately, with only eight of the 23 also possessing at least one Michelin Star.

Last year, Inter Scaldes received three Stars, but the restaurant was sold by Chef Jannis Brevet and his wife, Claudia Brevet, who managed front of house. They sold the restaurant to chef Jeroen Achtien and his wife, Sanne Achtien. They have been running the restaurant since September last year and now have earned two Stars in one go. Because of the change in ownership, the Kruiningen restaurant is considered a newcomer to the two-star list. Eighteen other restaurants retained their two-star status.

Restaurants awarded their first star this year are Showw in Amsterdam, Zenith in Apeldoorn, Demain in Cadzand, Joann in Enschede, Sabero in Leende, Restaurant 1857 in Roosendaal, Odille in Sint-Oedenrode, Triptyque in Wateringen, Lutum in Wijk by Duurstede, and Restaurant Affect in Zwolle.

The Michelin organization also awarded eight new Green Stars to the chefs dedicated to sustainability at restaurants in the Netherlands. These went to Neder in Alkmaar, Restaurant Vannu in Bavel, Mearkas in Eastermar, Flores in Nijmegen, Het Kook Atelier op Oost in Texel, Fermin in Rotterdam, Heimat in Utrecht, and Lutum in Wijk by Duurstede.

The Young Chef of the Year award went to Sofiane Bons of Joelia in Rotterdam. Lendl Mijnhijmer of Showw in Amsterdam won the Sommelier Award.

The event was held at the hospitality trade fair BBB in Maastricht. It was the first time the event was held in Maastricht, which is also why the timing of the event moved from spring to autumn. Michelin wanted to hold the ceremony during the hospitality trade fair.

Last week, Michelin already announced 15 new Bib Gourmand restaurants in the Netherlands in the run-up to the Michelin star awards. The Bib Gourmand awards go to restaurants that offer excellent value for money.

Last year, 17 restaurants received a Michelin star, including newcomers like Vanderveen in Amsterdam, Yama in Rotterdam, Karel 5 in Utrecht, and Lizz in Gouda. Vanderveen ended up closing only weeks after getting its Michelin star. After last year's ceremony, the Netherlands counted 125 Michelin-star restaurants—two with three stars, 20 with two stars, and 103 with one star.

Below follows the lists of the 122 restaurants with at least one Michelin Star as of October 2024, as well as the 23 chefs and restaurants with a Green Star.
