Dutchman drowns in France while trying to rescue daughter from strong current
A 50-year-old Dutch tourist drowned near Bordeaux in France on Saturday evening. He had gone into the sea at Grand Crohot to save his daughter from a strong current, NOS reports.
The daughter got into trouble because of a deep gully, a section between sandbanks where the current towards the sea can be very strong. The man went in to help her. She managed to get back to the beach herself, but her father did not.
Other swimmers eventually pulled the man out of the water. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.
Lifeguards were on duty at the beach until 7:00 p.m. due to the strong current. The Dutchman drowned after they had gone home.
