Over 600 kilograms of cocaine found in avocado shipment at Rotterdam port
Around 614 kilograms of cocaine was found in the port of Rotterdam on Wednesday after a random check by customs officers, the Public Prosecution Service reported. The drugs were hidden inside containers of avocados. It had a street value of over 46 million euros.
The containers had gotten into the country from Peru via Panama. One of the containers contained 514 kilograms of cocaine and was headed towards a company in De Lier that presumably had nothing to do with the smuggling.
A different container of avocados that had come into the country via the same route had 100 kilograms of cocaine inside and was meant to be going to a company in Ridderkerk, which also seems to have nothing to do with the narcotics.
The drugs have now been destroyed. The HARC-team, a 27-year-old partnership between Customs, the FIOD, the Seaport Police, and the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam, will investigate the incidents.
