One of Netherlands' oldest companies leaving the Amsterdam stock exchange
Lucas Bols, an almost 450-year-old beverage company, will disappear from the Amsterdam stock exchange on September 2. The company announced this after recently being taken over by gin distiller Nolet from Schiedam.
The Amsterdam distillery Lucas Bols is one of the oldest companies in the world. The gin company known for drinks like Passoã, Bokma, and Pisang Ambon went onto the stock exchange on February 4, 2015. Investors paid a symbolic price at the time. The introductory price was 15.75 euros, referring to the year in which the Bols family opened its first distillery, then called 'stokerij 't Lootsje,' on the current Rozengracht.
Bols was taken over earlier this year by almost just as old gin distiller Nolet from Schiedam. Nolet already owned 30 percent of Bols but expanded this to 70 percent in February.
The history of the family business Nolet dates back to 1691. The distillery became famous due to brands like Ketel 1 and Proosje van Schiedam, and it also made gin under the name Nolet.
Lucas Bols will keep its name under the new owners.
