Traffic jams and delays on Europe's roads on the second Black Saturday
European roads will be busy again on the second Black Saturday of the year. According to the ANWB, vacationers will cause traffic jams on the routes to and from popular vacation destinations.
The most delays in France are expected on the Autoroute du Soleil, the A7 between Lyon and Orange. The A10 to Bordeaux and the A9 to and from the Spanish border will also be busy. Furthermore, on the Autoroute du Soleil (A7) in France, there are already several traffic jams between Lyon and Marseille.
The biggest rush is expected between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The ANWB once again recommends avoiding Paris because of the Olympic Games. Due to security measures and the daily transport of Olympic athletes and guests, many (main) roads or lanes in and around Paris are closed. At its peak last week, France had around 830 kilometers of traffic jams, less than in previous years.
In Germany, long traffic jams will also occur in both northern and southern directions. Especially in northern Germany, Dutch vacationers can expect delays as the summer holidays will end on Monday. As a result, the holiday traffic is combined with more than 1,100 different road works, causing delays, the ANWB warns.
In Switzerland, people on the A2 at the St. Gotthard tunnel must wait about two hours.

In Italy, too, the roads are already getting busier. Although there is already a lot of traffic, the number of traffic jams is "not yet dramatic," according to the ANWB.
In Austria, traffic jams are expected in the Tauern and Karawanken tunnels heading south. In Italy, heavy traffic will move towards the coast and lakes.
The ANWB expects European roads to remain very busy until at least 2 p.m.
