ANWB already notices a lot of vacation traffic on the roads in Europe
The ANWB is already seeing a lot of holiday traffic on the roads in Europe on Saturday. According to a spokesperson, there are many delays in France and Germany.
On the A7 in France between Lyon and Marseille, traffic is delayed for at least an hour due to the traffic on the road. Furthermore, there is a lot of roadwork on the A3 in Germany, which means people are on the road for about 1.5 hours longer.
In Austria and Switzerland, there are many traffic jams on the roads to Italy. On Saturday afternoon, the waiting time at the Swiss Gotthard tunnel increased to more than a hundred minutes. On the A11 in Austria, there is a traffic jam of at least 9 kilometers towards the border with Slovenia on Saturday afternoon. Road users take 1.5 hours longer to complete their journey there.
In Austria, several local roads have also been closed due to severe weather, forcing traffic to divert. According to the spokesperson, the situation is "as expected" on the roads towards the south, which are popular with Dutch vacationists.
In the Central region, the summer vacation started on Friday. In the southern region, the vacation started a week earlier. Students still have to wait until next Friday in the north of the country.
