Netherlands allowed to provide €750 mil. in State aid for sustainability
The Netherlands is allowed to spend 750 million euros on companies that can use it to invest in greening their production processes. The European Commission gave permission for this form of state aid on Thursday.
With the scheme, the Commission wants to encourage Dutch companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40 percent compared to now. This contributes to the Netherlands' strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from industry by four million tons by 2030.
The subsidies are awarded directly to companies if they submit an application for them. No more than 200 million euros may be provided per company. The subsidy must be granted before 1 January 2026.
The Netherlands had notified the European Commission of the support scheme. The investments are needed to promote the transition to climate-neutral production.
