Body recovered of man missing since jump from Maastricht bridge

The police found the body of a man who disappeared in the Meuse River in Maastricht. The man disappeared into the water after jumping off the Wilhelmina Bridge.

Emergency services launched a search for the man after he was reported missing at around 9:15 p.m. on Monday. Shipping traffic was halted as the police and fire brigade searched for him on boats and in diving teams. They had to call off the search when it became too dark to see.

The search continued on Tuesday, and rescue workers found a body at around 1:30 p.m. Forensic investigation confirmed that the body found is indeed the man who jumped off the bridge on Monday, the Limburg police said on Wednesday.

“Out of respect for his loved ones, we’ll make no further statements,” the police said.
