Injured and festival canceled after stormy weather in the Netherlands on Saturday
Strong winds on Saturday afternoon injured several people in the Netherlands. On Saturday, the national meteorological institute KNMI issued a Code Yellow warning for the provinces of Groningen, Zuid-Holland, and Zeeland due to the risk of heavy gusts of wind.
For instance, a woman in Olst in the province of Overijssel was trapped under a branch that had been blown away. In Leerdam, a woman was also injured by a large branch that had broken off a tree due to the wind.
According to a spokesperson for the safety region, the injured woman in Olst had to be rescued by the fire department. She was then taken to the hospital. The severity of her injuries is unknown.
Mayor Sjors Fröhlich of Vijfheerenlanden, which includes Leerdam, warned the residents of his municipality to remain alert "for the gusts of wind and falling branches." According to him, the police, municipality, fire brigade, and ambulance had "a lot of work" on Saturday afternoon. "Many thanks to the emergency services!"
In Zuidoostbeemster, three people were slightly injured when a fallen tent pole hit them, the Noordhollands Dagblad reported. The incident occurred during the two-day P3 Pops Up music festival. The festival organizers were forced to cancel the Saturday program due to the strong winds.
After the stormy weather and cool temperatures at the beginning of July, Weeronline expects warmer days in the coming week. Even if it remains cloudy on Sunday, it will be warmer and sunnier from Monday, according to the weather service.
