Wild boar shot and killed in Maastricht city center
A hunter shot and killed a wild boar that had gotten loose in a park in Maastricht city center. A spokesperson for the municipality said the intervention was necessary because the boar had shown aggressive behavior in the hours prior, especially to cyclists. No people were injured during the incident
The first reports about the wild boar in the Waldeckpark came at around 8:45 a.m. to the police and the municipality, according to a spokesperson for the police. The park was then closed before two officers with a hunting permit looked for the animal. One of them shot and killed the animal at around 11:45 a.m.
A municipality spokesperson said that the boar had possibly strayed from the nearby Jekerdal. Wild boars are regularly seen in the nearby villages of Amby and Bunde, but such a boar had never been spotted in the city center of Maastricht before, said both spokespeople.
