Major fire in a building in the center of Sneek, Friesland
A major fire broke out in a building on Kleine Kerkstraat in Sneek, Friesland on Saturday night. According to the fire department, the fire started on the roof and by 4:50 a.m. the second floor of the building was completely on fire. Around 6:50 a.m., the fire was under control. There is still some fire in the roof of the building, but according to the fire department, it cannot spread any further.
The fire department could not immediately say whether the second floor, where the fire was raging, was occupied. However, the spokesperson could confirm that there are no longer any people in the building and that there are no injuries.
The fire broke out in a large building in the city center of Sneek with many buildings around it. The fire department deployed five fire engines and two aerial platforms to extinguish the fire and tried to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings on Saturday night. Due to the dense development in the city center, the risk of a large-scale fire was high, NOS reported.
Around 6 a.m., the fire department reported that a large part of the roof of the building had collapsed. The roof has been completely destroyed. The rest of the building also has extensive smoke and water damage. The extinguishing work will probably take several hours, the fire department stated.
Update brand #Sneek: Het sein brand meester is zojuist gegeven. In het dak zit nog wel vuur maar de brand kan niet verder uitbreiden. We laten de brand nu gecontroleerd naar buiten komen om hem daarna goed te kunnen afblussen.
