Heavy showers expected again on Saturday
After a somewhat dry break on Saturday, heavy showers are expected again on Sunday. According to weather service Weeronline, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected. Tomorrow will start dry with temperatures of up to 23 degrees, but the weather can change significantly from midday.
Clouds will move across the country from the southwest, which could bring 20 to 30 millimeters of precipitation in a short time. This weather, combined with hail and wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour, will last until Sunday evening. The first clearing will set in from the southwest, followed by clearing from the east and northeast towards the evening.
The days after the weekend will remain changeable. The outlier in terms of precipitation is expected on Wednesday, Weeronline predicts. Another rain zone will then pass through, which will be less intense than this weekend.
With the amounts of precipitation so far, there is a chance that this year's spring will go down as the second wettest spring on record. The extremely wet month of May, during which an average of 90 millimeters fell over the country, could possibly lead to an average monthly sum of 110 millimeters. Since measurements started in 1906, 1983 still leads with 122 millimeters.
This amount of rain is rather disruptive for road traffic and can lead to traffic jams and increased accidents. On Friday, for instance, the rain led to considerable traffic jams on Dutch roads early on. The ANWB counted over 140 traffic jams with a total length of over 800 kilometers on the A and N roads.
