Amsterdam police release video after British tourist stabbed in the Red Light District
The police released video footage of an apparent drug dealer who stabbed a British tourist on the Korte Niezel in Amsterdam’s Red Light District in March. The police asked the public to help identify the suspect.
The British man and his girlfriend were walking back to their hotel after visiting a pub at around 1:30 a.m. on March 23 when a dealer approached them, asking if they wanted to buy drugs. The couple declined, and a heated argument broke out.
"The woman pushes the dealer away," and the British man also joined in the fray, police said. "This cost him dearly, because the suspect then stabbed the man soon after," a police update continued. "The victim collapses. The woman still runs after the suspect, but in vain."
The woman tried to catch the fleeing suspect and was dragged several meters across the street. The suspect ran into the busy area surrounding the Red Light District.
The British tourist sustained serious injuries in the stabbing. He spent several days in hospital and had to undergo an emergency surgery.
The police are still looking for the suspect. Investigators said it was, "a very intense and violent case."
