Lower price for bungalow park accommodation behind lower inflation in April

The inflation in the Netherlands in April ended up at 2.7 percent as opposed to 3.1 percent in March, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The new tally of 2.7 percent is a definitive number, matching the initial quick estimate. The CBS claims that the decrease from March to April is connected to lower prices for bungalow park stays.

The CBS stated that the prices of tourism services are higher around the holidays and vacation season because more people go on vacation. This year, April had fewer holiday days due to eEster falling early, and the May school holiday starting later.

These circumstances resulted in the prices for a stay in a bungalow park in April being lower this year than last year. A stay was 5.2 percent less expensive than in the same month the previous year and 16 percent more expensive in March than a year prior.

Inflation in the Netherlands wa 2.6 percent in April when calculated with the European harmonized calculation method. That calculation method is a little bit different than the one the CBS uses, because costs for living in your own home are not included.

This method for measuring inflation was agreed upon by the parties in the European Union.
