Customer threatens taxi driver with knife after disagreement over fare
The police arrested a 56-year-old man in Breda overnight for threatening a taxi driver with a knife because he didn’t agree with the fare.
The 41-year-old taxi driver was waiting for customers at the taxi stand on the Nieuwe Prinskade in Breda at around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday. A man walked up and asked what it would cost to take him to the Haagse Beemden in Breda. The driver said the fare would be 30 euros, which the man found too expensive and walked away.
A few minutes later the same man got into the taxi and instructed the driver to take him to Haase Beemden. At the destination, the passenger suddenly announced that he would pay no more than 15 euros, accusing the driver of fraud.
The taxi driver said that, unfortunately, the man had to pay his fare. The man then pulled a knife and threatened the driver.
The driver jumped out of the car and called the police. Responding officers arrested the man a short time later.
