Partly sunny and warm spring weather expected for long weekend
Netherlands residents can look forward to a dry, partly sunny, and warm long weekend, with temperatures climbing to mid-twenties by Sunday. Though it will be quite a bit chillier along the coast and on the Wadden islands - popular destinations for Ascension weekend travelers, Weeronline expects.
Today will be the chilliest day of the week, with maximums between 14 and 18 degrees. There may be some more sunshine during the afternoon.
Ascension Day tomorrow will be a bit warmer, with maximums ranging from around 16 degrees in the coastal provinces and 18-20 degrees inland. The day will start off quite misty, and there will be quite a bit of cloud cover across the country. But no rain is expected, and there will be little wind. “Wonderful weather to do something active outside,” Weeronline said.
The weather on the beaches may be a bit more disappointing. “Due to the wind from the sea, it can remain foggy on the beaches, and then it is only 14 degrees,” the weather service said.
Temperatures will steadily increase in the coming days. Friday will see maximums of 18 to 22 degrees, Saturday will climb to 20 to 23 degrees, and Mother’s Day on Sunday may even hit 25 degrees. “Rain is not expected on any day, and it is the sun that dominates the weather,” Weeronline said. “All in all, wonderful prospects for holidaymakers.”
The Wadden Islands are typically popular destinations for holidaymakers on the long Ascension weekend. The weather there will be dry with lots of room for sunshine from Friday. “But take considerably lower temperatures into account here than inland due to a northern sea breeze.” Maximums will climb to 18 degrees on the western beaches on Friday, but that will drop to 14 degrees when the breeze picks up.
