Eurostar aims to have all their trains powered by renewable energy by 2030
Eurostar wants all their trains to be powered by renewable energy by 2030. This has already been the case in the Netherlands since 2017, and the goal is to have all high-speed trains connecting France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom running on renewable energy by that time.
Eurostar is the first railway company to have joined the RE1001-alliance, an initiative for companies committed to having 100 percent of the energy they use from renewable sources. Wind energy has been used to power the Eurostar trains in the Netherlands since 2017.
The number of trains using renewable energy has risen to 40 percent in the United Kingdom since 2023.
It was announced by Eurostar in February that the company is looking into installing new solar energy projects to power their trains. The group also wants to prevent waste. Every meal on board has been made with sustainable sourcing and eco-friendly options in mind.
