Jezus Leeft to appeal against exclusion from European Elections

The political party Jezus Leeft filed a case with the Council of State because they are not going to be allowed to participate in the European Parliament elections on June 6. The Council of State, the highest administrative court in the Netherlands, will hear the case on Monday at 11 a.m.

The Council is expected to release their initial decision by May 10. Jezus Leeft handed in the registration forms for their participation to the Dutch Electoral Council last week, just like 20 other parties did.

However, the party did not fill in a candidate's birthdate on one of the forms, and the signature from the person handing in the forms was also missing. The Electoral Council declared the registration forms invalid.

The party immediately objected during the Electoral Council session, but their objection was rejected. "This decision was not taken lightly. It is quite unique that this happened," said Wim Kuijken, the chair of the Electoral Council.
