Dutch woman arrested for involvement in attempt to kill Spanish politician
A Dutch woman is in custody on suspicion of involvement in an assassination attempt on Spanish politician Alejo Vidal-Quadras in November. The police arrested her in the Netherlands, the Spanish police reported.
The politician was shot in the jaw in Madrid on November 9 last year, allegedly by a hired gunman. He barely survived the attack. Vidal-Quadras believes that Iran was behind the attack due to his ties with members of the Iranian opposition.
The Dutch woman is suspected of financing and preparing the assassination attempt on Vidal-Quadras. The police did not release any further information about her identity. It is not clear when she was arrested.
Four other suspects were previously arrested in Spain and Colombia, also for involvement in the preparation for the assassination attempt, NU.nl reported. The police are still looking for the shooter and getaway driver.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) could not confirm the arrest on Tuesday evening.
