Air France-KLM may slash jobs as the airline tries to find ways to cut costs

Air France-KLM is actively looking for ways to limit expenses. Scrapping jobs is one of the options discussed by the airline, although that plan is not concrete, said CFO Steven Zaat while discussing the quarterly results. The company has around 73,000 employees.

The airline group said during its quarterly results presentation that they will not hire any supporting staff for the time being. The overhead costs necessary to keep the business running must also be reduced.

Air France-KLM's losses reached 480 million euros for the first quarter of the year, compared to 337 million euros for the same time period in 2023. This was the worst quarterly loss since the end of the coronavirus pandemic.

Air France-KLM is not the only airline group trying to control company costs. Lufthansa announced on Tuesday that it will implement cost-cutting measures. The German company had an operational loss of 849 million euros over the months of January, February, and March, which is 600 million euros more than a year earlier.

Lufthansa mainly struggled this year due to the continuing strikes in Germany. However, wage agreements have now been reached with the ground and cabin crew unions.
