Amsterdam Apple Store hostage taker wore bodycam all night; Video in new documentary

The man who took another as a hostage in the Apple Store in Amsterdam two years ago filmed the incident with a bodycam. The footage he made can be seen in the documentary, De Gijzeling in de Apple Store, or The Hostage Situation in the Apple Store.

Abdel A., a 27-year-old armed man, held a customer as a hostage in the store on Leidseplein for several hours. About 70 people who had hidden in the building were brought to safety by the police during and after the hostage situation.

When the hostage managed to flee from the building, Abdel A. gave chase. A tactical police officer then drove into Abdel A., who died from his injuries a day later.

The film will be debut on Amsterdam broadcaster AT5 on February 22 at 8 p.m. It will be available on streaming service Videoland from then on.

The documentary was made by Roos Gerritsen. Several people involved were interviewed for the film. There is also "other special material included in the documentary", according to AT5, the content of which will be revealed later.

At the beginning of this month, it was also announced that Netflix is ​​making a film about the hostage situation. The leading roles will be played by Soufiane Moussouli, Marcel Hensema, Loes Haverkort, Louis Talpe and Emmanuel Ohene Boafo.

It is not yet known when the film will appear on the streaming service.
