20-year-old arrested in connection with Driehuis fatal stabbing
A 20-year-old man from Haarlem was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in Driehuis on Monday, the police reported on Wednesday.
On Monday morning, a 24-year-old resident of Driehuis, a village located in the municipality of Velsen in the province of Noord-Holland, was fatally stabbed. The victim was found in the driveway of a house on Wolff en Dekenlaan. Despite attempts at resuscitation, the individual succumbed to his injuries.
A 20-year-old suspect was arrested in Haarlem on Wednesday afternoon and transferred to a cell complex, where he is held in full confinement. "No further substantive information is being provided at this time," the police stated.
According to regional broadcaster NH Nieuws, the suspect was allegedly in a dispute with the victim over drugs. Speculations are rife among staff and patrons of local cafes, the broadcaster noted, with claims that the victim was involved in drug trafficking, possibly attempting to quit, or anticipating a revenge attack.
A police spokesperson informed the broadcaster on Wednesday that they could not confirm this information. However, they said the investigation at the house on Wolff and Dekenlaan was concluded.
The incident has deeply shaken the Driehuis community. The regional broadcaster noted that many neighbors expressed shock, although they were reluctant to discuss details.
NH Nieuws also reported that approximately five students from the nearby Ichthus College saw the victim collapse and the perpetrator flee the scene. The school would not comment on the students' well-being to the broadcaster.
