3 cops hurt, 11 rioters arrested around FC Twente match

The police arrested eleven people around the Conference League match between FC Twente and Fiorentina in Enschede on Thursday evening. Three police officers sustained minor injuries. Several other people were slightly injured in the stands during the match when a firework bomb went off between the seats, the police said on Friday.

The match ended 0-0, knocking FC Twente out of the main tournament of the Conference League. Fiorentina from Florence will enter the group stage.

The riot police carried out several charges at and around the stadium to separate supporters of the two football clubs. According to the police, they were out for a confrontation. The eleven arrested suspects face accusations of public violence, assault, vandalism, and violating the weapons and ammunition law.

During the match, Italian supporters threw a fireworks bomb at the FC Twente supporters, NU.nl reports. The projectile exploded in the stands, hurting several people. The referee temporarily stopped the match. Things flared up again in the second half when Fiorentina fans threw a torch.
