Man trying to catch his escaped dog killed in highway crash; Dog found safe
A 58-year-old man who was running on the A58 motorway was struck by a car and killed Thursday evening. The victim was identified as a 58-year-old German. The accident happened near Moergestel in Noord-Brabant.
Police believe the victim was chasing after a dog that ran onto the highway. The man brought his car to a gas station along the A58 when the dog escaped.
The dog went missing after the crash, but Rijkswaterstaat workers and the police saw the animal on Friday morning in the central median of the highway. Once the highway was closed, the workers managed to get hold of the dog. Police officers took the animal to a safe location.
Police are still investigating whether the victim was hit by a single car or multiple vehicles.
Victim support services will provide counselling to people who witnessed the accident.
