Police and Marechaussee arrest three suspects for human trafficking
A total of three suspects were arrested in Gramsbergen in Overijssel and at the Schiphol airport for human trafficking, participation in a criminal organization, money laundering and cannabis cultivation. The arrests at Schiphol were made together with the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
The arrests took place on Tuesday, on which day the homes of the suspects were also raided, police announced on Friday.
The suspects included a 57-year-old woman from Amsterdam, a 54-year-old man from Emmen and a 44-year-old woman from Utrecht.
Police found a firearm, an electric shock weapon, cartridges and a large amount of hemp during the raids.
The arrests were made as part of a long police investigation into human trafficking. Five suspects were taken into custody in April after a cannabis farm in Wittelte in Drenthe was discovered last December. In the shed, a woman had held also been held under “appalling conditions”, police said.
