Explosion at Amsterdam coffeeshop; Police investigating

A coffeeshop on Admiraal de Rijterweg in Amsterdam West was damaged by an explosive going off in front of it early on Tuesday morning. The police closed down the street and the Ministry of Defense's explosive disposal service was deployed to investigate.

Emergency services responded to the scene at around 3:30 a.m. As far as is known, no one was injured, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter. What type of explosive was involved is not yet clear.

The blast severely damaged the roller shutter in front of the coffeeshop's entrance, according to AT5. Several windows were also shattered.

A witness told the Amsterdam broadcaster that two perpetrators were targeting the ATM inside the coffeeshop and that they drove away on a scooter after the explosion. The police could not confirm this.

The police are looking for witnesses or people who may have surveillance camera or dashcam footage of the incident.
