Man shot multiple times in Amsterdam; condition critical

A man was shot multiple times in the Amsterdam district of Osdorp during the early hours of Tuesday morning. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, the police said on Twitter.

The shooting happened at around 2:00 a.m. on Hoekenes, near the crossing with Osdorper Ban. A trauma team was deployed a few minutes later. Fire department crews were also dispatched to help someone in need of artificial resuscitation.

Two people were seen leaving the scene on foot, the police said.

This is not the first incident on Osdorper Ban, according to NU.nl. At the end of September, a person was injured in another shooting. An explosive was also found on the street. Mayor Femke Halsema closed a local liquor store and a night shop in an attempt to guarantee public safety.

It is not yet clear whether these incidents are related.

The police are investigating and call on witnesses to come forward.
