Applause for doctors, nurses, healthcare workers

Inspired by videos of people in Italy and Spain applauding their local healthcare workers, an event was created on Facebook calling on people in the Netherlands to do the same. The nationwide standing ovation will happen at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Facebook event.

"The healthcare workers, aid workers and all those people who keep our country running are currently fighting the coronavirus Covid-19 day and night. They literally fight for our lives and our society. This is worth a big an loud applause," the initiators wrote on Facebook.

They call on everyone in the Netherlands to stand "in front of your door, on the flat roof, balcony or behind your window in safe place" and clap their hands for 3 minutes, starting at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. "Film it at put it online with #klapcoronadewerelduit so that the hard workers can also see this when they have a moment. Strong together!"

Netherlands residents are also finding other ways to support healthcare workers. Since Monday, banners saying 'thank you' have been popping up at hospitals around the country.
