Leiden students warned to buddy-up after multiple reports of sexual harassment, assault
Student associations in Leiden are warning their members to not go out alone at night after multiple students reported being sexually harassed or assaulted in the city center. The police received multiple reports of incidents, a police spokesperson confirmed to AD.
The incidents seem to mainly take place in Breestraat and Haarlemmerstraat, in the heart of Leiden, according to the student associations. In the most recent incident, a man stormed from a porch and pressed a female student to a wall, the newspaper writes. The young woman managed to escape by kicking her attacker off her. One student association told AD that one young woman was raped, but the police spokesperson could not confirm his.
"We are aware of the reports", the police spokesperson said to AD. "We are investigating the matter." How many incidents are involved, and whether all incidents involved the same perpetrator, the spokesperson could not say. "There are different descriptions."
