Suspect arrested in fatal stabbing at Rotterdam metro station

A 20-year-old man from Rotterdam was arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing at Capelsebrug subway station in Rotterdam on Monday morning. The victim was a 20-year-old man from Lekkerkerk, the police said in a statement.

The stabbing happened on the platform of Cepelsebrug subway station towards De Terp at around 10:00 a.m. on Monday. First responders tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene. 

The station was very busy at the time of the incident. The police spoke to many witnesses and offered them victim support if they need it. Witnesses told the police that the victim and perpetrator had a disagreement prior to the stabbing. 

Based on witness statements and surveillance camera footage, the police identified the 20-year-old Rotterdam resident as a suspect. He was arrested on Monday evening.

The investigation is still ongoing. "Witnesses and information remain welcome", the police said.
