Come get your misplaced cocaine, say Rotterdam police
The Rotterdam police are looking for the person who misplaced a backpack on Witte de Withstraat on Friday night. The backpack contained multiple phones and a "a large amount of cocaine". The police invite the owner to come pick up his bag. "Come and visit the Doelwater police station", the Rotterdam police said on Twitter.
This was only one of multiple cocaine discoveries in or connected to Rotterdam over the past weeks. On Tuesday last week, the police found a total of nearly 3 thousand kilograms of the drug in containers on Maasvlakte in the port of Rotterdam, AD reports. 1,650 kilos of cocaine was found hidden among sugar, and another 1,300 kilos in a shipment of banana pulp. Six suspects were arrested. Both containers came from Costa Rica. The drugs, which had a total street value of around 150 million euros, were destroyed.
Last week Monday, the Brazilian authorities found 720 kilograms of cocaine at the port of Santos. The drugs were hidden in two containers, one containing fragrance oil the other containing products of different exporters, both of which were on their way to Rotterdam, according to the newspaper. No arrests were made. The local police believe that the drug traffickers used the rip-on method, in which criminals hide shipments of drugs in containers just before they are loaded for shipment. This happens without the knowledge of importers or exporters.
Earlier this month customs officers at the port of Rotterdam found a total of 1,250 kilos of cocaine in two containers, one containing fresh fruit, the other containing fruit concentrate.
