A police canine team in Almelo found a missing 88-year-old woman from the Overijssel city on Monday night. Authorities then rescued the woman who was conscious, but suffering from symptoms of hypothermia, police said.

The woman, who uses a walker, went missing from the Aletta Jacobsstraat at about 4:15 p.m. “In the night, the missing woman was found by a dog handler. He was searching with his service dog in the vicinity of the location provided [online],” police said in a statement.

“The missing woman was in a dry, deep ditch, and was not visible from the road,” police added. She was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

A report from a citizen alert network said the woman was still missing as late as 10:50 p.m.
