Liberation Day parties in the Netherlands on Sunday

On Sunday the Netherlands is celebrating Liberation day with various festivals and parties across the country. Prime Minister Mark Rutte will kick off the festivities by giving a speech and then lighting the Liberation Fire at 1:00 p.m. at the Liberation Festival Flevoland in Almere. The lighting of the Liberation Fire is considered the start sign for the 14 Liberation Festivals across the country.

Here follows an overview of Liberation Day parties across the Netherlands on Sunday, compiled by NU.nl.

The Amsterdam Liberation Day festival is happening in the Westergasfabriek from 11:00 a.m. The "free West" party will have seven stages, featuring artists including De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Jeangu Macrooy, The Cool Quest, Skip & Die, and Thijs Boontjies Dans- en Showorkest. In Rotterdam, the Dutch city hit hardest by World War II, a total of 16 acts will celebrate Liberation Day in Het Parkt from 12:30 p.m. In the shadow of the Euromast, performances by Blaudzun, Josylvio, FÄIS, Tusky, Sam Feldt, EUT and La Fuente, among others, will make sure everyone can feel the Liberation Day vibes. The Liberation Day festivities in Utrecht kick off in Park Transwijk from 12:30 p.m. Artists include Kraantje Pappie, Jonna Fraser, Bettie Serveert, Leafs, EUT and Yallah! Yallah!. More information here.

The Hague will celebrate Liberation Day on the Malieveld from noon, with various performances given by Racoon, Toontje Lager, Gallowstreet, 2 Brothers On The 4th Floor, Latifah, and The Voice-finalist Quido van de Graaf, among many more. More information here.

Gelderland is hosting the largest Liberation ay Festival in the country in Wageningen - where the capitulation of German troops in the Netherlands was discussed in 1945. The party will be held from noon in various locations in Wageningen, with Bizzey, DeWolff, Ronde, Ilse DeLange, and ambassador of freedom Sam Feldt being some of the main attractions. The Liberation Day festival Enschede kicks off at Twente University from noon. A total of 36 artists, including Jody Bernal, Dries Roelvink, Famke Louise, and East & Young will provide entertainment. More information here.

Noord-Brabant will celebrate Liberation Day with a festival at De Pettelaarse Schans in 's-Hertogenbosch from 12:30 p.m. Jet Rebel, Navarone, Sam Feldt, Merol, Massada and cult-accordionist Mario Batkovic, among others, will perform on the three stages at the festival. More information here.

The Flevoland Liberation Festival starts at Esplanade in Almere at 1:00 p.m. In addition to Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the program includes Donnie en Joost, Kraantje Pappie, DI-RECT, Nielson, Re-Play, and Trafassi, with a sing-along medley show by Dirty Daddies ending the day. The province of Groningen will celebrate the end of the Second World War in the city of Groningen. The six stages in Stadspark will feature a mix of national and international artists including Crystal Fighters, Omar Souleyman, Danny Vera, Thomas Azier, $hirak, Tom Walker and My Baby from noon. Overijssel will hold one of the largest Liberation Day festivals in Park de Wezenlanden in Zwolle from 11:30 a.m. The total of 40 acts include ambassador of peace Maan, Novastar, Ilse DeLange, La Pegatina, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, and Jeangu Macrooy. More information here.

The Limburg Liberation Day festivities will kick off at 12:30 p.m. at Markt in Roermond. Performers include Winnie, Altin Gun, Maan, Luminize, Danny Vera and Mt. Atlas. More information here.
