
Car crashes into Hardewijk city hall; driver arrested
A red passenger car deliberately crashed into the entrance of the city hall in Hardewijk on Thursday afternoon. The driver was arrested in a home in the city, about an hour after the crash, the Gelderland police said. No one was injured.
The driver crashed the car into the glass sliding doors of the building located on Havendam at around 2:30 p.m., and then fled. The suspect was arrested at around 3:30 p.m., after a large police search also involving a police helicopter.
Employees of the city hall were evacuated and temporarily accommodated at the fish auction in Hardewijk.
So far the police have given no details about the identity of the suspect, the motive, or the circumstances surrounding the incidents. Police officers conducted investigations at the city hall and the suspect will be questioned.
