Two men arrested for human trafficking
The police arrested two men in De Bilt and Zeist on Monday morning. They are suspected of human trafficking at two addresses in Utrecht. The two involved houses were placed on lockdown by the municipality last year, the police said in a statement.
According to the police, the 63-year-old man from De Bilt and 59-year-old man from Zeist rented two properties in Utrecht where the operated illegal sex establishments and facilitated prostitution. The municipality of Utrecht closed down the two properties when these suspicions were confirmed in November last year.
Further investigation led to the suspicion that the men also recruited underage boys to work as prostitutes and were involved in human trafficking. The suspicion of facilitating prostitution was therefore raised to suspicion of sexual exploitation.
The two are in custody for questioning and will be arraigned on Thursday.
