Hand grenade found in Leeuwarden garden

A resident of Van Harenstraat in Leeuwarden found a hand grenade in his garden on Sunday morning. The explosive was disarmed by experts from the Ministry of Defense and removed from the scene, the Friesland police said on Twitter.

The explosive was discovered at around 9:30 a.m. According to the police, investigation quickly showed that the grenade posed no danger to the environment. The Defense explosive experts were still called in as a precaution.

The police are investigating how the grenade came to be in the Van Harenstraat garden.
