'Ideal marriage candidate' arrested for scamming multiple women

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of scamming multiple women throughout the Netherlands. According to the police, the man pretended to be 'the ideal marriage candidate' and then stole tens of thousands of euros from the women. The Amsterdam police are looking for more women who may have fallen victim to the Gelderland man's scheme, NU.nl reports.

Multiple women already reported the man to the police. So far all the victims have a Moroccan background. The suspect, who also has a Moroccan background, used different names including Nourdin, Nordin and Brahim, and targeted women in different areas. He built up a relationship of trust with the women and said he wanted to marry them.

According to the police, the man claimed to crave commitment while talking to his victims. He said he wanted to get engaged quickly, and in some cases even had contact with the victims' family about the engagement. The man created the impression that he was a successful businessman, the police said. Because the victims trusted him completely, he could easily borrow money from them for an engagement party, or to arrange something for his business. He then disappeared without a trace.

The suspect first came into the picture during a major Amsterdam investigation in 2016, in which he was a witness. While speaking to him, the police got a strong suspicion of fraud and decided to investigate the man further. The police call on women who fell victim to this man to come forward.
