Man shot in Amsterdam; suspect on the run

A man was injured in a shooting on George Sliekerkade in Amsterdam shortly before midnight on Wednesday, the police said on Twitter.

The shooting happened at around 11:45 p.m. in IJburg, a residential area built on artificial islands in Amsterdam Oost. The police responded to reports of loud bangs and a man lying in the street, screaming. At the scene they found the 43-year-old man injured.

Witnesses saw two persons fleeing the scene on a scooter. The police are investigating.
