Girl spends hours on high-voltage mast before SWAT team rescue
Specialized police officers from a SWAT team took a minor girl from a high-voltage mast in Warnsveld, Gelderland on Wednesday evening. The girl, who was struggling with psychological issues, spent hours on the mast, the Telegraaf reports.
The police received a phone call about the girl at around 5:00 p.m. The roads around the mast were cordoned off and good lighting was arranged. The fire department also responded to the scene to provide aid. A SWAT team eventually removed the girl from the high-voltage mast around 8:00 p.m. "A special climbing team went up to secure the girl so that she could not fall", a police spokesperson said to the newspaper.
A SWAT team is one of the most severe means that the police can use. "We tried other things before that, like using a negotiator to talk to the girl", the spokesperson said.
After the rescue, the police handed the girl over to emergency services. She was taken to hospital for examination. "In the end, the action was brought to a good end, also for us."
