Schiphol partly evacuated, man overpowered after bomb threat
Schiphol's departure hall 3 was evacuated for a short time on Monday evening after a bomb threat. The Koninklijke Marechaussee arrested a 51-year-old man from Canada, the military branch reported.
The evacuation happened shortly after 7:00 p.m. According to the Marechaussee, the evacuation was a precautionary measure after the Canadian man said that there was a bomb in the departure hall. The hall was searched, but no explosives were found.
The man was arrested and is currently in custody, according to the newspaper.
The evacuation caused no major delays, a spokesperson for Schiphol said to NU.nl. Some travelers were sent to other departure halls, but most could continue their travels unhindered.
The Koninklijke Marechaussee is a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military and is responsible for border security, including at airports.
