Cherry picker accident in Duiven bike tunnel; one hurt

One person was trapped and injured in an accident with a cherry picker in a bicycle tunnel under the A12 highway in Duiven. Part of the concrete ceiling collapsed when the platform touched the ceiling, a spokesperson for local safety office Veiligheidsregio Gelderland-Midden confirmed to NU.nl.

Emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, responded to the scene. The operator of the cherry picker was freed and taken to the Radboud hospital in Nijmegen with injuries to his arm and head. The severity of his injuries is not yet known.

The platform was in the bicycle tunnel for maintenance work. It hit the ceiling, causing concrete plating to collapse to the ground. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
